Ampato (from the Aymara jamp’atu, ‘toad’) is an inactive volcano located in the Ampato Mountain Range in southern Peru, in the district of Lluta. It has an altitude of 6,325 meters. Near the summit of this snow-capped mountain, a frozen corpse was discovered in September 1995. This female mummy is known as Juanita, the Lady of Ampato and can be seen in the Andean Sanctuaries Museum in the city of Arequipa.
Climbing duration 2 days.
1st day
Departure 6:00 am pick up the pax from their hotel in a 4×4 and along the Yura route.
You enter the detour to Sallalli until you reach 5270 meters in 4 1/2 hrs. Where they will have a box lunch and then start walking with all the equipment until 5500 meters. For 2 hrs. where the base camp will be set up, then the guide prepares dinner and they proceed to sleep in their tents.
2nd day
Breakfast 2:00 am then they will begin to walk with a small backpack of attack to the summit (6325 mtrs) in 6 hrs., then they will return to the camp in 3 hrs.
They dismantle the camp and continue walking towards the mobility where the guide will cook lunch and then return to Arequipa arriving at 6pm.
